S.B.A.N.A. is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership at the Annual Imperial Sessions. S.B.A.N.A. Membership is open to all regular Shrine band Nobles in good standing at his Shrine Center. Membership is yearly from January 1st. to December 31st. Dues are a nominal $10.00 per member. The purpose and main function of S.B.A.N.A. is to provide a musical outlet for all Shrine Bands in North America, with the exception of Oriental Bands, Pipe Bands and Drum Corps, the opportunity to assemble at a designated S.B.A.N.A. site, meet as brothers, in fellowship, through music. At these sessions S.B.A.N.A. provides a performance site to showcase the talents of a Shrine Center Band in a musical competition called a “Festival of Music”. The program for the “Festival of Music”, include competitions in Concert Band, German Bands, Polka Bands, Dance Bands, Show Bands and small Ensembles: consisting of three to seven performers. In addition Parade Bands, in the Imperial Session day parade, may also enter for an adjudication of their performance. “Festival of Music” competitions are judged and plaques are awarded to entrants. The all-inclusive Massed Band is available to all SBANA members. The Massed Band, comprised of Shrine Members, is held in the downtown areas of the particular city in which the session is held. Additional events may be available depending on the city in which the Imperial Session is held.
